2016 marks the 30th anniversary of Sweden’s most successful pop duo ever. Starting out in 1986, Roxette has made music history. Next summer, Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle will be celebrating their three decades together with a big European tour. Fans will have the opportunity to see the two superstars in their true element – the major arenas.

Roxette’s worldwide tour “XXX – The 30th Anniversary Tour” actually began in 2014 with performances in Russia, the Baltic States and Finland, and continued in 2015 with sold-out concerts at legendary arenas such as O2 Arena in London, Olympia in Paris and Olympiahalle in Münich. Several summer gigs were also held in their home country Sweden, closing with a much-praised finale at Dalhalla. 2016 – the year of their anniversary – will open with five concerts in South Africa. Just in time for summer, Roxette will then be returning to Europe for shows in Germany, Slovakia and Russia. More dates will be announced.

The Roxette pop saga began in 1986, when the already well-known artists Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson finally started the collaboration they’d discussed for so long. Their plan was to conquer the music industry with the magical combination of Per’s songs and Marie’s vocals. 30 years later, with 75 million sold records, 33 singles and countless number one hits (including four on American Billboard), it goes to show that their strategy was a success.

The group’s first single “Neverending Love”, released upon their 1986 formation, was followed by the debut album “Pearls of Passion” and Roxette soon became a household name in Sweden. However, their international breakthrough came only in 1988, when the major Minneapolis-based radio station KDWB started playing  “The Look” from an LP that an American exchange student had brought back from Sweden. The song spread like wildfire, despite the album not being available in the US, eventually reaching number one on the Billboard charts. This feat was repeated with “Listen to Your Heart”, “It Must Have Been Love” and “Joyride”.

Aside from a period during the 00’s when Marie battled cancer, Roxette has constantly played arenas all over the world. After a 2011 “reunion”, they released the album “Charm School” and the single “She’s Got Nothing On (But The Radio)”, followed by a world tour in 46 countries. The 153 shows, seen by a total of 1,5 million people, made it clear that Roxette had been missed by their fans.

2016 sees the completion of Marie Fredriksson’s and Per Gessle’s 30th anniversary tour – two seasoned but ever-hungry superstars celebrating 30 years together by once again taking their positions on the world’s greatest stages.
