Roxette Diaries is a new documentary film in which Jonas Åkerlund tells the story of how Roxette conquered the world. Through their private video recordings we get to follow Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson during a time in their career that surpassed their wildest fantasies. With videos from behind-the-scene of music video productions in Los Angeles, studio sessions in Sweden and of screaming fans in Rio De Janeiro, this film gives us an amazing insight into their artist careers. All the video content in the film is personally recorded by Per and Åsa Gessle, which gives us an exclusive look at the life of one of Sweden’s biggest music exports of all time.
Per Gessle will be present during the premiere on the 14th to answer the audience questions.
– Roxette’s primetime happened between 1986 and 1995 during an era when a video camera wasn’t something you saw every day. But we were really early to own one, and got the chance to record most of it – says Per Gessle. I gave Jonas Ålerlund the mission to capture the spirit of Roxette’s early days in a film, as well as keeping it honest and make it silly and fun to watch.
– I knew about Per’s box with all his private videocassettes for a long time before I finally decided to bring them with me to Stockholm and digitalize them – says Jonas Åkerlund. That’s when the idea for Roxette Diaries was born. This journey back in time is like a smorgasbord for all the fans. It’s a reminder of all the great music they released and how huge Roxette was as a band. Roxette Diaries is the ultimate behind-the-scenes film with 90 minutes of history straight out of Per and Maries diaries.
Roxette Diaries will premiere on Friday August 14th 15:00 at the Capitol cinema in Gothenburg during the Way Out West festival. The film is also shown Saturday 15th at 15:15 in the film tent in the festival area. // Team Rox
